Bob Smither the best hope for Libertarians in '06

There is an exciting House race out in the 22nd district in Texas where for the first time since the party's inception in 1972 a Libertarian could take it's first National level victory. Bob Smither is really the only one that can play to the "Republican" type leanings of the population. He wrote this for those who might not know what the heck a Libertarian is :
Libertarians have a dream: a society where each individual can prosper in their own way and by their own efforts without interference from government. This dream can only be realized when the guiding principle of libertarians, Libertarians do not believe in or advocate the initiation of force to achieve social or political goals, becomes the principle of that most of us live by.Such a simple idea, but with profound implications. The Libertarian Party pledge is a popularization of the non-aggression principle. The proper role of government in a civil society is limited to protecting the rights of citizens, such as the right to own private property, the right to keep what you work for, the right to express your opinion, and the right to raise your family as you wish.Prosperity and human dignity can only develop in a society where individuals and groups are free to work together voluntarily. This is the society that libertarians are working to create.
A Libertarian Dream | Bob Smither for Congress
Of course the publics lack of knowledge on anyone beyond the two parties always does harm to any third party candidate. It's even worse when you can't get any real polling numbers as pointed out by this Smither Campaign Press Release.
Time will tell on this one (as it always does) with possible "October Surprises" lurking around the corner.
In the nature of full disclosure I am a member of the Libertarian Party (lp.org)
